This year’s tendency of strengthening moldavian lei to us dollar and euro is normal process

The director of the department of monetary policy and analysis of the National bank of Moldova Andrei Rotaru declared this in time of the "round table" in NBM. He noted that since the beginning of this year lei has strengthened by 6,4% to US dollar and by 3 % to euro. The expert said that it is normal and cited the example of 1998 when lei was strongly devaluated. Andrei Rotaru said that current rate of lei to US dollar is normal and specified that policy of NBM is focused on free quoting of lei in comparison with other currencies. He said that declarations that NBM manages official rate of lei are not true to life. He noted that official average rate of lei to basic foreign currencies is calculated on the basis of currency transactions at the market. The director of the department of monetary policy and analysis of NBM stressed that bank calculates lei’s rate for preventing speculations of legal entities and individuals.
