The Government of Moldova undertakes urgent steps for restructuring credits taken by the agricultural producers in the banks.
It was announced by the prime minister Vasile Tarlev in time of the meeting devoted to the problems of additional support to agricultural producers damaged by drought. He emphasized, that the problem concerns restructuring credits for delay of payments and commissions for prolongation of the term of credits’ restitution penalty free. The head of the government also noted necessity of opening new favorable credit lines for agrarian sector. The prime-minister told, that he has addressed to commercial banks of the country with an appeal to refrain from harsh steps towards agricultural producers which were damaged by drought and are unable to restitute credits in time. As he said, the authorities of the country negotiate with external donors about opening new long-term credit lines for Moldova. In time of the meeting the prime-minister has charged the corresponding bodies to create special working group including representatives of the Ministry of Finance, National bank of Moldova, Ministry of Economy and trade, National association of commercial banks, trade unions and patronage which will propose ways of decision this problem in 10-days time. In time of the meeting, the minister of agriculture and food industry Anatoly Gorodenco noted, that the majority of economic agents of agrarian sector has received short-term credits, which term expires in 2007-2008. In conditions of the strong drought this year, the majority of them are not able to return credits in time. The prime-minister Vasile Tarlev reminded, that earlier the government undertook a number of effective steps for support of agricultural producers, including provision of additional subvention for land processing, postponing term of payment of land tax and release from VAT for import of seeds and grain crops.
