In the first quarter of 2007, amount of remittances sent to Moldova by individuals from abroad through commercial banks made $209,77 million.
As compared to the same period of 2006, it is $60,32 million, or 40,4 % more than at the same period of 2007. As " InfoMarket " agency was informed in the National bank of Moldova, in January 2007, amount of remittances made $60,37 million, $65,37 million in February and $84 million in March, respectively. Thus, $146,27 million, or about 70 % from total amount of remittances were sent by means of fast money transfer systems. In January-March of the last year, amount of remittances sent to Moldova by individuals from abroad made $149,45 million. Thus about $106,3 million from all remittances were sent by means of fast money transfer systems. It should be noted, that in 2006 total amount of remittances sent to Moldova by individuals from abroad made $854,6 million, having increased by $171,35 million, or 25,1 % in comparison with the same period of 2006. In particular, in the I quarter of 2006, the sum of remittances made $149,45 million, in the II quarter - $204,51 million, in the III quarter - $249,24 million and in the IV quarter - $251,35 million, accordingly. Thus, the greatest amount of remittances was registered in December ($87,69 million), August ($86,14 million) and September ($82,61 million). $628,62 million or 73,5 % from all remittances were sent by means of fast money transfer systems. As to the amount of transfers made, leading positions are held by Russia and Italy. According to the data of the World Bank, citizens of Moldova left abroad annually transfer the sum equal to ? of GDP of the country.
