VOLUME OF INDIVIDUALS’ MONEY TRANSFERS FROM ABROAD TO MOLDOVA THROUGH COMMERCIAL BANKS IN 2006 MADE UP $854,6 MLN. INCREASING AT $171,35 MLN. OR AT 25,1%.

As «InfoMarket» agency was informed in NBM, in time of the I-st quarter of 2006, money transfers made up $149,5 mln., $204,51 mln. in the II-d, $249,24 mln. in the III-d and $251,35 mln. in the IV-th quraters. The biggest transfers’ volume was registered in December ($87,69 mln.), August ($86,14 mln.) and September ($82,61 mln.). $628,62 mln. or 73,5% were transferred through commercial banks by means of fast transfer money systems. In 2005 this indicator made up 72,8% ($497,84 mln. from the total sum of $683,25 mln.). Among fast money transfer systems practically half of transfers were executed by Western Union. Russia and Italy are the leading countries regarding transfers’ amount. NBM notes that Western Union performs money transfers practically to the same countries as other fast money transfer systems. As NBM notes, practically all world geography is represented by fast money transfer systems. According to NBM’ s data, Moldavians left abroad and seeking employment, annually transfer sums equal to ¼ of Moldavian GDP.
