The World Bank (WB) is ready to increase its financial support for Moldova.
WB Regional Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova Paul Berminghem has declared it at a press conference on Wednesday. According to him, the amount of the annual assistance for Moldova constitutes $20-25 million. At the same time he has noted that $40 million were embodied in the WB budget-2005 for Moldova that testifies to the strengthening of its support for Moldova. «In the future we intend to keep to the same financing level and, maybe, we shall increase it», - he has underlined. Paul Berminghem has also noted that all the WB programs in can be successful only in the case of the RM government’s adequate policy, aimed at macroeconomic stability, investment attraction of the State. According to him, Moldova’s economic growth can be caused only by internal factors, but not by external ones, as the money transfers by the Moldovan guest workers. On behalf of the WB he has recommended not to use the financial resources, given by the international donors, including the WB, the IMF for consumption.
